The scudetto kicks off this weekend - with more than a few interesting encounters.
Saturday 25th August
Lazio 2 – 2 Torino
In the first match of the new Serie A season, Lazio were held to a 2-2 draw by Torino at the Stadio Olimpico.
Juventus 5 – 1 Livorno
With just a David Trezeguet goal to show for the first half, the game exploded into life towards the end of the second. Iaquinta notched a brace on his debut and Trezeguet completed his hat-trick to help Juventus pick up a stunning 5-1 win over Livorno...
Sunday 26th August
Fiorentina 3– 1Empoli
The Tuscan derby is definitely one of the most anticipated matches this weekend, with the two sides each spoiling for a win against their rivals. Both squads did very well last year and their fans expect the same from them this season, in particular those of Fiorentina.
Genoa 0 – 3 Milan
A goal from Massimo Ambrosini and two from Kaka saw Milan run out 3-0 winners over a brave Genoa side. The Rossoneri were put under tremendous pressure in the second half, but defended solidly to make it a great start to the season...
Inter 1 – 1 Udinese
The reigning Italian champions kick-off their campaign with a difficult home game against an Udinese side just itching to surprise everyone.
Napoli 0 – 2 Cagliari
The Partenopei mark their return to Serie A with a home match against a weakened Cagliari side, who lost Suazo to Inter this summer. This is the perfect opportunity for the Azzurri to kick-off their campaign with a bang and prove that they are back in Serie A to stay.
Parma 2 – 2 Catania
Two teams which battled till the last matchday for the survival in Serie A last season square off here. The Gialloblu will be hoping to avoid the lower positions in the standings this year following some good purchases during the transfer market, whereas the Rossoblu do not seem equipped well enough to remain in the topflight.
Reggina 1 – 1 Atalanta
Miracles only happen once in a lifetime, and this will probably be the case of Reggina. The Amaranti incredibly enough managed to overcome an 11 point deficit at the start of last season and survive in the last matchday of Serie A.
Siena 1 – 2 Sampdoria
Siena have no big aspirations, with survival their main objective. Not an easy one by all means, but can surely repeat the good early part of last season that saw them pull away from the relegation dogfight.
Palermo 0 – 2 Roma
The first big match of the season, and a game which could go either way, especially if Roma does not perform at its best. Palermo will have Amauri back to spearhead the attacking line in what is a major boost for the Rosanero.
