Serie A Weekend Round Up:

AS Roma 2-1 AC Milan

Substitute duo Ludovic Giuly and Mirko Vucinic struck two late goals to stun AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico. Milan put in their best performance of the season, but went down in Rome after a spectacular second half. The Rossoneri made a dream start after the break, scoring through Kaka and having several chances to extend their lead. Spalletti's substitutions were spot on and Roma took just three minutes to turn it around with strikes from Giuly and Vucinic. The comeback was a testament to the strength of Totti and co, who are now just three points behind Inter, but was tough on Ancelotti's side, who can feel hard done by.

Atalanta 4 - 1 Empoli
Sloppy finishing and a lack of defensive confidence let Empoli down in Bergamo against ah ome side that eventually ran riot. The visitors actually had the best of the chances early on, but Coppola was the equal of Empoli's efforts, while Atalanta were to take the lead 20 minutes in as Belleri crossed in for Langella to head home.Less than ten minutes later, Tissone played the give-and-go with Doni, enabling the latter to stride forward and beat Bassi with ease for the second.Early in the second half, Budel brought out the best in Coppola once more, and eventually Padoin capitalised on good work from Floccari to make it 3-0 and seal the game.Vannucchi did pick up a consolation goal seven minutes from time, but Padoin seemed determined to give his side a three-goal advantage, and duly did so sixty seconds later: this time, it really was all over.

Cagliari 3 - 0 Torino
A remarkable performance from the hosts sees their survival hopes continue as Torino went down 3-0 on Sardinia.
Eleven minutes in, Cagliari took a deserved lead as Acquafresca played Jeda through for a fine shot from the edge of the area.
Storari then saved a Di Michele penalty after Parola took down Lazetic in the box, which in turn caused the Islanders to find instand reply through Acquafresca.Di Michele had a great chance to pull one back fifteen minutes before the break, but overall the hosts were well worth their lead. They were even able to add to it just before the hour mark as the indomitable Acquafresca converted a spot-kick, and that was enough to seal a vital win.

Fiorentina 3 - 1 Genoa

Fiorentina fully deserved their win over an outclassed Genoa outfit in Florence.20 minutes in, Santana and Mutu combined beautifully for the former to scamp free into the box, where he side-footed past Scarpi for the lead.Ten minutes later, Mutu showed his class with an absolutely lovely finish into the top corner after being teed up by Pazzini.
Pazzini made it three ten minutes after the break by getting on the end of a great through ball from Liverani to shoot home, and although Genoa managed a consolation through Masiero's close-range effot, it was too little, too late.

Inter 2 - 1 Palermo

The nerazzuri made it tough for themselves, but managed a vital home win against a questionable Sicilian outfit.Vieira started and finished a fine goalscoring move five minutes in to give his side the lead, but despite more pressure, Palermo were to find an equaliser soon afterwards. It came as Cesar fumbled a Miccoli effort into the path of Simplicio, saving again, only for the ball to fly off Materazzi and into the stopper's own net.Still, Inter continued to press, and duly made it 2-1 when Jimenez was teed up by Maicon - the Palermo defence standing motionless nearby - for a neat finish. The second period was more sedate, but Inter clearly felt that they had done enough, and ran down the clock for a vital three points.

Livorno 1 - 1 Parma
Hector Cuper was left in no doubt as to the enormity of the task facing him as Parma boss after a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Livorno.
After a sedate start in which Pisanu had the best chance for the visitors, Livorno took a lead into the break after Vidigal's snapshot caught Bucci by surprise.Amelia looked like he conceded a penalty just on the stroke of half time as brought down Paci, but the referee saw nothing. In any case, the Ducali were now ready to fight back, and duly found the equaliser on the hour mark after Gasbarroni's cross was fired goalwards by Reginaldo.

Reggina 4 - 0 Siena
A tremendous performance from Reggina saw their Tuscan neighbours leave with nothing, and the hosts' relegation challenge shown to be very much alive. After just ten minutes, Cozza tipped Modesto's cross on to Brienza for the opener, and ten minutes later, Cozza himself got on the scoresheet with a brilliant solo effort.Five minutes before the break, Brienza grabbed his second with a close-range finish after Bartotto initially saved Cascione's effort right on the line. Then, twenty minutes from time, Missiroli cheekily slotted past the flailing Manninger to make it four, with the rout complete.

Sampdoria 3 - 1 Catania
Four late goals made for a dramatic finish in Genoa, and one in which the hosts prevailed. The first half lacked in chances, with Samp's sole tremendous chance ending in heartache as Gastaldello shot over the bar from eight yards when completely unmarked. The hosts came out much stronger for the start of the second half, though, with Palombo eventually giving his side the lead courtesy of a 30-yard thunderbolt.Stovini equalised minutes later with a close-range finish after good work from Vargas, but immediately afterwards Accardi was able to re-assert his side's lead with a confident finish after a corner.Bellucci then wrapped it up four minutes from time with a sweet strike after some good build-up down the left, and all three points remained at the Luigi Ferraris.

Serie A Midweek Round-Up:

Cagliari 1 - 0 Atalanta
Atalanta will rue ineffectual play as an Acquafresca penalty gave Caglairi all three points, and a vital leg-up in their bid to avoid relegation.
After a spirited opening, the hosts eventually earned a penalty as Pellegrino tore down Acquafresca in the box, with the youngster converting his own spot kick.
While the Bergamese had most of the chances heading into the second half, they were often restricted to long-range efforts, which Storari dealt with admirably.Eventually, the visitors' challenge withered after Carrozzieri's late sending-off, and the Sardinians controlled the game with ease until its conclusion.

Catania 0 - 0 Siena
A draw was perhaps the fairest result on Sicily as these two sides fought out a largely even game. There was little action to speak of in the first period, but heading into the second, Tedesco crossed for Mascara, who really should have done better with his header when faced with Manninger in the visitors' goal.Siena tried to hit back through Maccarone, but the journeyman saw his long-range effort saved by Polito.
Rossettini had to clear off the line for Robur minutes later, with Manninger nowhere, and it seemed as if this was one of those games destined to end goalless, which indeed it did.

Empoli 0 - 0 Juventus

A lack of the final ball let Juventus down in deepest Tuscany, where Empoli were well worth their point in the end.
The hosts did little by way of attacking, but grew more confident in defending as the match went on. Early on, though, they found themselves foxed by the likes of Zebina, but Juve just couldn't make anything of their possession.Indeed, as the game went on, neither 'keeper was overly busy, and a goalless draw was unpreventable.

Genoa 1 - 1 Inter
Inter couldn't make their early advantage count as they dropped two points on the coast.
Suazo's early goal seemed set to open the floodgates, but Pele's sending-off just before half time tipped things in Genoa's favour.
Both sides were to have their chances in an active second period, but when Borriello acrobatically fired home Julio Cesar's parry from Juric's shot, things were level.
Thus they stayed, and Inter sweated on goings-on in Rome...

Livorno 1 - 1 Reggina
Livorno passed up several chances to bury the game against the Calabrians, who held on to take a point.
In fact, they had the ball in the net first, as Modesto's fine run down the left eventually culminated in a cross for Brienza, who did not disappoint in the finish. But the Amaranto had the best of the second period, and the only surprise was that they managed just the one goal. That came from the head of Bogdani, who succeeded where others - such as De Vezze and Galante - failed.

Milan 1 - 2 Sampdoria

Goals from Christian Maggio and Gennaro Delvecchio gave Sampdoria the win at San Siro.
In an active opening spell, Maggio took advantage of some poor defending to get on the end of Sammarco's through ball.
Ten minutes later, Seedorf's inability to retain possession saw Delvecchio go one-on-one with Kalac, and emerge as the victor.
Even Paloschi's second-half strike couldn't dent the visitors' resolve, and thus the rossoneri were down and out.

Napoli 2 - 0 Fiorentina

The Viola were outplayed - and perhaps lacked luck - at the San Paolo against Napoli.Mutu in fact had the first fine chance of the game as he charged through the middle, but Santacroce got down low to save.
The 'keeper's tenacity was rewarded 23 minutes in when Lavezzi opened the scoring. The forward was able to capitalise after Mannini dispossesed the careless Pasqual and played the ball across for him to beat Frey from clow-range.Fiorentina then had a Mutu strike chalked off for a foul on Calaio by Ujfalusi, and no sooner had that been cleared up than Lavezzi doubled his side's advantage after a corner.
After the break, Mutu would have been left wondering exactly what he had to do to score after he headed Ujfalusi's cross off the woodwork, but Napoli were to have the best of it heading into the closing stages.
The best, that is, but for one chance, and one that summed up the Viola's evening. After Papa Waigo played the ball across goal, Mutu and Cacia ended up running into each other and thus wasting a fine chance to pull one back.

Parma 2 - 1 Palermo
A late, late goal from Budan gave Parma an absolutely vital win against Palermo, who were second best on the night.
The Ducali started well, but coach Hector Cuper had to shuffle his pack 27 minutes in after Mariga's red card.
But whatever change he made paid off as Gasbarroni crossed for Budan to head in at the far post just after the break.
Simplicio played Cavani through for the equaliser soon afterwards, and it looked as though the ten-men hosts were set for more heartbreak.
But Dessena won a penalty right at the death, and Budan converted to send the fans wild.

Torino 0 - 0 Udinese
Torino arguably deserved a draw, but a little piece of class saw Udinese's fine run continue. After 25 minutes, Pepe hit an absolutely tremendous free-kick goalwards to open the scoring, and Torino were now on the back foot. They had a decent penalty claim denied a few minute slater, and a goal chalked off 20 minutes from time: that was controversial, for Stellone, who beat Handanovic with a precise finish, was actually onside from Rosina's pass; Di Michele was not, but was he active?
In any case, Udinese weathered the storm and left with three points.

Lazio 3 - 2 Roma

Nothing else has gone right for them this season, but Lazio at least managed a close-fought win in a thrilling Rome derby.
Taddei scored with arguably the first clear-cut chance of the game half an hour in, although how much he knew about it is debatable. The buildup with Perrotta and Vucinic was good, but in fact the Brazilian netted thanks to a deflection from Behrami's attempted clearance.
Just before the break, though, Pandev equalised after getting on the end of Kolarov's low cross at the back post.
Roma had the ball in the net just after the break, but Totti's effort was correctly ruled out for offside. Indeed, Lazio were to score next as Rocchi beat Doni from the penalty spot.
Minutes later, though, Vucinic fed the ball to Totti, who in turn provided Perrotta with possession in the box, and he made no mistake with a cool finish. But right at the death, Lazio sealed an incredible win as Behrami netted from ten yards.

Serie A Saturday Round-Up:

AS Roma 2 - 1 Empoli

Max Tonetto handed Roma a first half lead, firing in from 12 yards out, only for the impressive Sebastian Giovinco to equalise in the 50th minute - tapping in after the hard work was done by Abate.Simone Perrotta was sent off soon after for hacking down Piccolo, but the Giallorossi were not to give in. Christian Panucci duly gave his team the lead again in the 61st minute, rising highest to head in a Pizarro delivery, and the home side battled to hold on to their lead this time around.

Palermo 2 - 3 Genoa
Genoa were surprisingly the stronger of the two sides at the start, and almost took the lead when Luciano Figueroa put Giuseppe Sculli through - it took a double save from goalkeeper Alberto Fontana to keep the Sicilians on level terms. The home side were under the cosh despite some good moves put together by an impressive Simplicio, Figueroa in particular looking very threatening. However, it was Palermo who would take a controversial lead in the 24th minute, Amauri converting from the spot after Santos brought down Edinson Cavani. Replays showed that the Genoa defender had clearly made contact with the ball first, but Cavani was injured nonetheless, and had to be replaced by Bosko Jankovic.Genoa were not to be undone, and responded well, Figueroa restoring parity six minutes later with a stinging effort after the Palermo midfield failed to close him down. Ivan Juric then forced another save from Fontana, and Figueroa came close on the stroke of half time as Genoa went into the break with their tails up. The visitors had deserved to be ahead in the first half, and duly went ahead early in the second after a clinical counter-attack. Figueroa found Omar Milanetto, and the midfielder made no mistake in a one-on-one against Fontana.Jankovic hit the crossbar as Palermo pushed for an equaliser, but the visitors were 3-1 ahead soon after Abdoulay Konko rose highest to head in a corner. Palermo pulled one back through Amauri in the 93rd minute, but it was too little too late as Genoa returned home with a deserved three points.

Sampdoria 1 - 1 Cagliari

Sampdoria were handed quite a game by their visitors, who should have taken the lead in the 26th minute when Jeda's strike was only just saved by Luca Castellazzi. However, they keep putting the home side under pressure, and it told in the 41st minute when Pasqale Foggia left two defenders for dead and rifled his shot past Castellazzi. However, Samp gradually came back into the game in the second half, even though they struggled to find that all important goal.Robert Aquafaresca missed a chance to close it out for Cagliari, as did put the ball in the back of the net, only to be denied by a very questionable offside call. Then, just as time was beginning to run out, Daniele Franceschini headed into the near corner in the 91st minute to rescue a point for the home side.

Siena 2 - 0 Parma
Parma started the stronger of the two sides, with Igor Budan being put through in the fourth minute. However, Alexander Manninger made a fine low save to keep him at bay.Siena resonded by winning a free-kick in a dangerous position in the 12th minute. Jarolim touched it on for Galloppa, who disappointingly smashed it straight into the wall. An adventurous Loria got on the end of a cross from the right moments later, but fired over. The game slowed to a trickle after that as both teams went on to cancel each other out, clearly more worried about losing. It all looked set to end in a goalless draw when the referee pointed to the spot five minutes from time after Massimo Maccarone wend down under a challenge from Zenoni.
Maccarone picked himself up and converted from the spot. Parma went all out for the equaliser, leaving themselves open at the back, and Maccarone grabbed a second for himself in the 93rd minute to seal the result.

Reggina 1 - 1 Napoli
Napoli have been superb at home and failed to replicate that on the road, and that trend continued in the first half against Reggina.
The home side were clearly better, and should have taken the lead when Contini brought down Amoruso, but much to the chagrin of the fans, the referee chose to wave play on.They had another great opportunity when Brienza headed a corner goalwards to produce a save from Gianello, and Aronica failed to turn the rebound into the net.It was a scrappy second half, highlighted by a clash between Cirillo and Gargano, the Reggina defender accusing his teammate of throwing an elbow. The game looked to be heading towards a draw, but the deadlock was broken in the 75th minute, and it was Reggina who found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreline despite having dominated.Ezequiel Lavezzi chested the ball down for Roberto Sosa, who had his first effort saved but calmly tucked away the rebound to give his side the all important lead. However, it was not to be away day joy for Napoli, as Franco Brienza pulled one back in injury time to give Reggina a deserved draw.

Fiorentina 1 - 0 Lazio

Lazio found their backs against the wall after Massimo Mutarelli was sent off in the first half, and Fiorentina finally broke the deadlock in the 76th minute. Liverani found Pazzini on the edge of the area, and the striker fired a clinical low shot that beat Ballotta all ends up.
It was just about a deserved lead for the home side on the balance of play, and they managed to hold on to it to secure a vital three points in the race for fourth place.

Torino 0 - 1 AC Milan

After their midweek disappointment, Milan needed all three points to keep up with Fiorentina, and had a quality display from Alexandre Pato to thank for their narrow 1-0 win against Torino. The Brazilian showed up in the right place in the 66th minute to turn the ball into the net after after Albertino Gilardino did well to set him up.

Udinese 2 - 0 Livorno
Livorno were always going to be up against it, and more so when Fabio Quagliarella's 25-yard angled effort beat Marco Amelia all ends up and nestled into the far corner.Antonio Di Natale made it 2-0 just after the restart, getting the better of Grandoni and Pavan before beating Amelia with a low diagonal effort. That is how it remained, Udinsese continuing their very positive season.

Atalanta 0 - 0 Catania
Atalanta made a strong start to the game, and Sergio Floccari had a fine 6th minute chance, but he turned and shot just wide. The home side were clearly dominant, but almost conceded in the 19th minute when Mascara was put through, and had to be denied by a superb save fromCoppola. The big moment of the first half came in the 24th minute, when Doni's shot hit Stovini's hand, and the referee - after conferring with the linesman - handed Atalanta a penalty. Doni stepped up, but had is effort pushed over by a heroic Polito. That turned out to be the highlight of the game as the two sides played out a dull goalless draw.

Juve Blow The Title Race Open

Inter Milan 1-2 Juventus

Goals from Mauro Camoranesi and David Trezeguet saw the Bianconeri send Inter crashing to a 2-1 defeat - a result that blows the title race wide open...

Juventus have become the first team to beat Inter at San Siro in Serie A this season.

The first half failed to suggest that there was so much drama to come, but drama it was as Mauro Camoranesi handed Juve the lead by squeezing the ball through Cesar's feet soon after the break.

Inter pushed for the equaliser, and it was David Trezeguet who made the telling difference, making it 2-0 for the Bianconeri on the break.

Nuno Maniche pulled one back for Inter with just under ten minutes to go, and then hit the post again moments later, but Juve held on to win the Derby D'Italia.

First Half

With the San Siro sold out, this Derby D’Italia was set to be a cracking encounter. The noise in the stadium was electrifying and both teams look fired up as the referee made those final few checks before kick off.

Inter kicked off and they came racing out of the starting blocks. Maicon whipped in a cross within the first twenty seconds. Chivu rose above the rest but his header went wide. It was a frantic start and a taste of what was to come. Inter looked dangerous in the first few minutes as they bombed forward. Ibrahimovic beat the offside trap and went through unmarked but Buffon came flying out to stop the big striker.

Down the other end Juve won a free kick and Del Piero stepped up to take it but it went flying over Cesar’s cross bar. It was a tightly fought battle with a number of free kicks being given away. The tempo of the game was electrifying. Juve came close and it took a great save to deny Del Piero.

Nedved crossed from the left and the Italian striker got their first but his effort from close range was tipped over for a corner. It was a great chance and Juve should have been in front. Del Piero was involved in the excellent build up as it was he who got the move going and was he unfortunate not to score.

Juventus began to settle into their rhythm and they gave the home side plenty to think about down the left wing as Nedved and Molinaro linked up well down the flanks. Inter were struggling every time Juve broke down the left wing. Inter seemed happy to keep possession and they were patitent with their build up play.

Inter then could not believe how they didn’t score following a Jimenez free kick. The ball was whipped into the far post and Burdisso crept in behind the Juve defence but he didn’t connect properly with the ball. Stankovic then rose above everyone to head the loose ball as it came across the box and he saw his effort go out off the cross bar much to the relief of Buffon who was helpless. Inter began to up the ante and they were working hard. But Juve always looked dangerous on the break.

It was a brilliant first half with chances being created at either end but neither team was able to break the deadlock as both defences were at their best in the opening half hour. The Old Lady then had Buffon to thank for preventing Chivu from scoring a free kick. The Romanian defender unleashed a powerful shot from the set piece which beat the wall but not the shot stopper’s outstretched arm as he dived low to his left to tip away a goal bound strike. It was a world class stop.

Neither side was able to make all the intense and hard work pay off as both teams walked off for a well deserved break.

Second Half

Juventus, like Inter in the first half, kicked off and used it to their advantage, almost scoring in the process. Grygera broke down the right wing and crossed the ball in, the Nerazzurri failed to clear and the chance fell to Nedved who hit the ball on the half-volley but Cesar was equal to it as he pushed it wide.

Juve looked dangerous early on and they scored three minutes into the second half. Molinaro played a through ball in and Camoranesi latched onto it as he ran through un-marked, the midfielder kept his head and he applied a calm and collected finish as he buried the ball under Cesar. Replays however show that the goal had an element of offside to it. Inter were appealing but to no avail as the old lady celebrated.

Mancini threw on Suazo and the Honduran looked dangerous from the moment he came on. However, he was not able to take advantage of his chances. Juventus seemed in control and they extended their lead through Trezeguet on the hour mark. It was a three man move which was started by Camoranesi who played it to Del Piero.

The World Cup winner chipped the ball towards Trezeguet but Chivu got a head to it which helped the French striker who smashed the volley home, leaving Cesar with no chance. Juventus were in firm control and Del Piero was on fire. He should have buried the game after leaving Materazzi for dead but it took a great save from Cesar to stop the Juve legend.

Inter looked shell-shocked and Ibrahimovic looked way below par. The Bianconeri’s defence was rock solid as they dealt with all the Inter attacks. Juve were in control and the Nerazzurri never really looked that they could get back into the game. There was no reaction from Inter after losing the second goal as Claudio Ranieri’s men kept up the pressure.

Del Piero had Materazzi in sixes and sevens as he twisted and turned the defender several times. He fed Trezeguet but he was late arriving as the ball rolled out. Inter offered no resistance as the San Siro went quiet. Del Piero was guilty of missing the chance of the season as he and Trezeguet tore apart the Nerazzurri defence. Del Piero was one on one with Cesar but rather than place his shot he blasted it at Cesar.

Down the other end Inter pulled one back through Maniche after he was set up by Maicon. The game was set up for a thrilling finale as Inter tried to steal a point. Juve were punished for not burying the game beyond Inter’s reach. Both teams were in for a tense final few minutes. Maniche then hit the post in injury time as Juve’s hearts were in their mouths. It was a spirited fight back from the Nerazzurri who just never gave up until the final whistle but Juve held on to conquer the San Siro. The race is now back on with Roma four points behind the league leaders.

Serie A Round Up:

Napoli 1 – 0 Palermo

A goal by Hamsik in the 92nd minute saw off the good resistance offered by Palermo at the San Paolo stadium in the 31st matchday of Serie A.
This match between the Partenopei and the Rosaneri presented itself as a mid-table clash, but in fact both sides were keen to avoid relegation. It was also a big night for Palermo. just when everything seemed to be heading towards a goalless draw, Hamsik pulled out magic out his hat in the 92nd minute a he headed in a Lavezzi cross for the joy of the home crowd at the San Paolo stadium. Sosa could have added a second one just before the final whistle, but his shot hit the bar.
In the end, Palermo's negative season continued. Even though the performance was a good one, the result was not forthcoming. On the other hand Napoli obtained three precious points which catapulted them up to10th place: now they can finally feel clear of the dropzone once and for all.

Lazio 1-1 Inter

Following Roma's 1-1 draw away to Cagliari earlier this afternoon, Serie A leaders Inter had the chance to go six points clear at the top again as they faced Lazio away from home. However, this has always been a tough fixture for the Nerazzurri, and once again they could only get a 1-1 draw, with the goals coming from Hernan Crespo and Tommaso Rocchi. On their first offensive, however, it was Inter who took the lead. Maicon made a great run on the right flank and played in a precise low pass for Crespo, who tapped the ball in easily from close range in the 11th minute. The second half started quietly, with Inter once again sitting back and Lazio controlling proceedings. In the 56th minute, Ibrahimovic fashioned a decent chance for Maniche, who had space for a shot from the edge of the area, but he fired the ball straight at Ballotta.
Somewhat out of the blue, the home side equalised just before the hour mark. A long pass from the back was controlled by Rocchi, who was barely onside, and the Italian striker kept his cool to slot the ball past Cesar (59’).

Roma 1-1 Cagliari

It was a tight affair at the stadio Sant’Elia in Cagliari. Neither side were able to find maximum points in what was an exciting game.
Cagliari started brightly and it was not long before the home side took the lead. The home side began pressing and they found themselves in front within three minutes. The Giallorossi conceded a corner following some good work by Cagliari. The awkward corner was swung in and a howler from Matteo Ferrari who put the ball in his own net gave the Rossoblu the lead. He had attempted to clear the ball, but he ended up with egg on his face as the Giallorossi were stunned.Roma came back chasing the game and after creating a flurry of great chances they were finally rewarded when Captain Totti pulled his side level. Just before half time Pizarro was fouled twenty five metres away from Storari’s net. Totti stepped up and smashed the ball hard to the goalkeeper’s right to bring the teams level. It was a fantastic strike from Totti and it was a well deserved equaliser.

Catania 1 - 2 Torino
Catania rued missed chances as a pair of classic goals from Torino sent all three points the visitors' way.
In a thrilling start, Spinesi opened the scoring after just three minutes as he got on the end of Vargas' corner, but Diana equalised seconds later after an absolutely beautiful one-two with Recoba. Both sides had their chances heading into the break, but Catania looked to be by far the better side, albeit one that couldn't hit the back of the net.
On occasion they were kept out by Fontana, who dealt particularly well with a Vargas snapshot just after the interval. But in fact Torino wre to score next, and it was a goal well worth waiting for. Di Michele got on the end of Rosina's long ball before correctly anticipating Polito's move and smashing past the 'keeper.

Empoli 0 - 2 Sampdoria
Sampdoria kept their fine run of form going with a routine win at struggling Empoli.Samp opened the scoring after just seven minutes as Sammarco shocked Bassi with a distant effort, and after yet more pressure they made it 2-0 on the quarter-hour mark as Marzoratti put through his own net.The Genovese were well on top and should have managed more, but some sloppy finishing and a tendency for the forwards to stray offside was costing them.In truth, though, the job was already done.

Genoa 1 - 0 Reggina
The Grifoni were merited winners against the weary Calabrians, although they were made to wait a while for their goal.
There were no strikes after the first 45 minutss, but Reggina were clearly on the back foot, with only Makinwa having the chance to threaten Rubinho in the home goal.At the other end, Boriello had been on form, and it was he who duly opened the scoring on the hour mark with a swift long-ball move that ended with his easily firing past Campagnolo.Reggina could have equalised soon afterwards, but for the poor finish of Joelson, but in truth they were second-best overall.

Juventus P - P Parma
Juventus' encounter with Parma was postponed after the tragic death of a fan at a service station en route to the game. See below for more details.

Livorno 0 - 0 Siena
This Tuscan derby failed to live up to its expectations as the two sides ground out a draw. The Amaranto will feel somewhat hard-done-by, though, considering the two good chances that they squandered during the first half.Indeed, they also staged a renaissance just after the hour mark, and were certainly the more apt of the two sides to manage a goal.
But the fans were sent home disappointed after the likes of Galante and Tavano were unable to find the finish.

AC Milan 1 - 2 Atalanta

Pirlo's penalty miss denied the Milanese a comeback draw against Atalanta, who had forged ahead to an early lead. The Bergamese opened the scoring through Floccari's rebounded goal after Kalac's parry, and the netter was again involved three minutes from the break as Langella capped off a fine team move with Atalanta's second.
Milan eventually recovered and had an Ambrosini goal chalked off 15 minutes from time for a foul on Coppola, but their next one counted as evergreen Paolo Maldini headed past the floundering goalkeeper.
Nesta was sent off from dissent just from the end, but Milan still had the chance to equalise after Ambrosini was fouled in the box, but Pirlo's effort was wonderfully saved by Coppola. 2-1 it ended.

Udinese 3 - 1 Fiorentina
Fiorentina failed to make possession count in the first period and fell away in the second as Udinese kept the race for fourth place well and truly alive. The hosts were in front after 13 minutes after Inler's beautiful 25-yard thunderbolt, and although Montolivo hit the bar ten minutes before the break, there was more to come from the Udine may.Granted, Vieri netted next with a close-range finish on the hour mark, but two strikes in four minutes sealed the game for the Zebras.First Di Natale strode past Ujfalusi and netted at a narrow angle 72 minutes in, and then Quagliarella sealed the rout with a rebounded finish after Frey denied his first effort.

Juventus - Parma Called Off After Tragic Fan Death

This afternoon's clash between Juventus and Parma has been called off after a Parma fan was tragically killed on his way to the game.

News on the incident is still sketchy at this stage, but it is understood that the Parma fan was accidentally run over by a coach, driven by Juventus fans, while he was on his way to this afternoon's game at the Stadio Olimpico in Turin.

Full details are still emerging but the supporter, 27-year-old Matteo Bagnaresi, was at a motorway service station on the A1 between Alessandria and Asti.

Tension was said to be rising between groups of rival supporters, and some newspapers say that a bus containing nine Juve fans was attacked. The driver then tried to get away and accidentally ran over Bagnaresi.

The driver of the bus reportedly did not even know he had run over a person, and was stopped 2km down the highway by police, pleading that he did not know what had happened.

As a precaution Juventus and Parma decided to call off this afternoon's game.

By a cruel twist of fate this tragedy takes place on the return matchday from when Lazio fan Gabriele Sandri was accidentally shot dead by policeman at a motorway service station on November 11.

Stadio Olympico? Is it not the Della Alpi? Terrible news anyway. Do these lunatics all meet to fight at the motorway servive stations over there?

Serie A weekend round up:

Palermo 3 – 2 Juventus

The Rosanero and Amauri started out strongly as the Brazilian striker had two shots towards goal within the first two minutes, but in one occasion the ball went just wide and in the other Buffon was diligent. However that was just the prelude to the opening goal as it was third time lucky for Amauri in the 11th minute. His opening strike came when he received a ball from Guana before blasting an unstoppable shot goalwards to the left hand side of Buffon from 18 yards. The referee Morganti awarded 5 minutes of injury time and in the final seconds of this stoppage time, Amauri scored his second goal of the game. Caserta crossed towards the middle and the Palermo attacker headed past Buffon from nine yards. This offensive change allowed the Bianconeri to be more focused in the second half and in the 52nd minute Del Piero managed to pull one back. However, most of the credit for this goal should go to Sissoko, who dribbled past three Palermo players before he shot towards goal. Fontana parried the shot and the Juventus captain scored from the rebound after taking the ball past Rinaudo.Palermo seemed helpless and in the 71st minute the Bianconeri managed to equalize thanks to the same protagonists of the first goal. Sissoko crossed towards the middle, Trezeguet headed toward goal, but once again Fontana made a very good save. Del Piero picked up the rebound and scored his second goal of the night to make it 2-2.However, just when everything seemed to be heading towards a draw, Palermo hit the Bianconeri in the 89th minute when Cassani received the ball 30 yards out, shooting high into the top-left corner of Buffon's goal to award the home side three points against a determined but wasteful Juventus side.

Milan 3-1 Cagliari

Milan produced a majestic first half performance on their way to a deserved 3-1 win over Cagliari, with Pippo Inzaghi helping himself to a brace.Milan had a host of players out injured for this game, as Brazilian trio Ronaldo, Emerson, and Serginho were all sidelined. Massimo Oddo, Marek Jankulovski, and Alberto Gilardino were also missing, while Alessandro Nesta was suspended. Alexandre Pato failed to recover from an injury, and was replaced by Pippo Inzaghi. Kaka opened the scoring for Milan on seven minutes with a wonderful solo effort. The Brazilian went on a trademark slalom run through before whipping a curling shot past the goalkeeper from just outside the area. The second goal was coming, and it duly arrived on the half-hour mark as Pirlo whipped in a corner from the right, and Inzaghi lost his man to power his header past Marco Storari.Milan then received a couple of injury blows as both Giuseppe Favalli and Gattuso limped off injured, with Cafu and Cristian Brocchi taking their places respectively.
Brocchi made an immediate impact, as on 68 minutes his pass put Inzaghi clean through on goal. The hitman was slowed down as he tried to round Storari, but then turned the keeper before brilliantly firing past two defenders on the line to score his second of the game and restore Milan’s two-goal cushion.

Roma 3-2 Genoa

Roma needed a victory at all costs to close the gap on Inter as they hosted Genoa at the Stadio Olimpico. It turned out to be an enthralling game, in which the home side did very well in the first half, taking a 2-0 lead, but Genoa managed to equalise with two quick-fire goals a minute early in the second half. Daniele De Rossi's late penalty ultimately allowed them to take home a crucial victory.

Atalanta 0 - 2 Internazionale

Atalanta will protest about the first goal, but in the end Inter proved too strong for the Bergamese side.It was a largely even start with both sides having chances, but it was Inter that found the back of the net first.Balotelli flighted in a fine corner towards Vieira, who rose above his marker to head home with all due power. Atalanta protested that the Frenchman had fouled his marker, but the goal stood.Inter then had the best of the half, but in fact almost threw it away after Belleri was unmarked for a volley on the edge of the box, but the defender completely miscued his shot.Eventually the visitors found their second, and this time Balotelli was the scorer, not the architest. Taking advantage of Cruz's intelligent flick-on, he was able to round the goalkeeper and fire into an empty net.Barring Doni's last minute red card, that was the final piece of action of note.

Catania 3 - 0 Napoli
Call it the Walter Zenga effect. The ex-'keeper's first game in charge ended in joy as the Sicilian side pulled away from the dropzone courtesy of a barnstorming beginning against hapless Napoli.
It took just four minutes for Colucci to take advantage of a short corner to shoot home from close range, and twelve minutes later Spinesi made it two after capitalising on his unmarked status to fire home after a low cross.Catania had by far the best of the first half, and despite one good chance for Napoli, they eventually made it three just after the break. Vargas killed it off after taking advantage of more sloppy defending from a corner 48 minutes in.Pazienza then hit the post as the visitors tried to claw one back, but it was clear that the game was already over as a contest.

Fiorentina 1 - 0 Reggina

Fiorentina made hard work of Reggina, but eventually managed to hold on for a merited victory.Reggina actually started the better side, but Fiorentina drew first blood. Pasqual's cross met Pazzini, who justified his recent hype with a lovely header past Campagnolo. From there the Viola were able to largely boss the encounter, particularly in the middle of the second half, when only some poor finishing, and game-saving stops from Campagnolo, kept it at 1-0.Eventually, though, the match ended with the hosts not being punished for their profligacy in the latter period of the game.

Parma 2 - 2 Lazio

A draw was perhaps the fairest result at the home of the Ducali in a match in which most of the action came courtesy of a first half goal blitz.
Parma's strong start bore fruit after just 16 minutes after a lucky deflection off Behrami allowed Budan through one-on-one, where he made no mistake.Ten minutes before the break, though, Lazio pulled off a tremendous double. First Pandev beat Falcono and then fired past Bucci with a left-footed effort, and then Bianchi's long-range effort gave the Romans the lead.Just before the break, though, Paci was able to rise above Kolarov after a deep free-kick and head past Muslera for the leveller.
The second period was drab and dull by comparison, and despite a spirited beginning to the half, there was little goalmouth action to speak of.

Sampdoria 2 - 0 Livorno
The hosts left it late, but eventally managed to take and hold onto a lead against the Tuscan visitors.Samp had a fine chance through Cassano four minutes in, but Amelia was the equal of this effort, and there were to be relatively few goalmouth incidents for the rest of the half.Indeed, Livorno were defending with relative ease, barring a couple of nervy moments early in the second half, and could have in fact taken the lead with a great counter-attack that Tavano sadly squandered. The Genovese side eventually found the goal they needed 67 minutes in, and Pieri was the architect. Leaving Balleri and Puletti for dead, he fired goalwards, only for Amelia to spill in the direction of Maggio.Balleri was injured during the build-up, making it hard for Livorno to fight back, and indeed they were unable to do so, even allowing Bonazzoli to kill the game off after good work from Pieri and Bellucci.

Siena 1 - 0 Udinese
Udinese must rue missed chances after sloppy play allowed Siena to take a lead and all three points on their own patch. The Friuliani were easily superior in the first half, but couldn't manage the breakthrough. That said, they came close on one occasion: Di Natale carved out a fine opportunity during something of a link-up with Dossena, and although the finish was wanting, it in fact evaded Manninger and hit the post.Udinese came out brightly in the second period, too, but in fact Siena were to eventually wake up and take the lead. Just four minutes after coming on, Kharja hit a tremendously precise effort from the edge of the box, and Handanovic could do nothing.Floro Flores, himself only seconds on the pitch, managed to find an equaliser 13 minutes from time, but when Manninger pulled off a vital save from Di Natale minutes later, it was clear that it wasn't to be the Friuliani's day.

Serie A Weekend Round Up:

Inter 2-0 Fiorentina

Inter had problems in the centre of defence for this game as Nelson Rivas joined long-term injury absentees Walter Samuel and Ivan Cordoba on the sidelines. Zlatan Ibrahimovic sat out the match once again due to his troublesome knee, meaning teenage star Mario Balotelli partnered Julio Cruz up-front. Inter finally broke the deadlock on 55 minutes as Vieira beat his man before cutting the ball back to Esteban Cambiasso, who slotted the ball past Frey.Fiorentina missed a great chance to equalize just five minutes later as substitute Christian Vieri did well down the left and cut the ball back to Kuzmanovic who ballooned the ball over from just six yards out.Seconds after this miss, Inter doubled their lead through teenage prodigy Balotelli. Cruz released the youngster, who beat the offside trap, and slid the ball coolly past Frey. Inter comfortably played out the remaining 15 minutes of the game, although Fiorentina twice went close in injury time to grabbing a consolation goal, as Julio Cesar first denied Mutu from a free kick, and then Vieri from the resulting corner.
Inter regain their four-point lead over Roma at the top of the table, while Fiorentina lose the chance to pull away in the race for fourth place.

Reggina 1 - 0 Sampdoria
Reggina picked up three utterly vital points in their own relegation battle.
Although Samp started well, Reggina had a great chance 25 minutes in, Castellazzi having to be at his best to save from Gastaldello, and then they went on to dominate. They had the lead ten minutes before the break after Cozza's beautiful assist found Brienza clean through on goal, where he made no mistake.Reggina should have made it 2-0 just after the break, but for Pieri's saving tackle, but although Cassano was looking lively towards the end, the hosts had already done enough.

Udinese 1 - 3 Roma

Roma fought back from 1-0 down to secure a deserved victory at Robur.
The first half ended without a goal, but it was a tremendously entertaining occasion, with no end of penalty claims and shots on target from both sides.Roma seemed to have the upper hand, though, which made it all the more surprising when Udinese took the lead seven minutes after the break.
Dossenna's far-post cross met Di Natale, who powered home a low header.
Twelve minutes later, though, Vucinic got on the end of Pizarro's chipped through ball to fire past Handanovic and make it 1-1.Taddei added a goal almost immediately afterwards with a great left-footed effort after good interplay from Totti and De Rossi.Substitute Giuly then wrapped it all up in the last minute after being put through by Vucinic, and it was all over.

Juventus 3-2 AC Milan

Juventus came from behind to beat Milan in a classic at the Stadio Olimpico in Turin. Two goals from Hasan Salihamidzic helped Juventus draw level, then beat AC Milan in a five-goal thriller in Turin.
The hosts took the lead in eleven minutes through man-of-the-hour Alessandro Del Piero, only to fall behind to a first-half double from Pippo Inzaghi.Salihamidzic levelled before the break, tapping in a rebound, before nodding home the winner with ten minutes remaining against a Rossoneri side minus a man thanks to Bonera’s red card.

Rearranged Game-April 16

Juventus 3-0 Parma

Juve came into this rescheduled week 31 game without the injured Cristiano Zanetti, Jonathan Zebina, and Momo Sissoko, as well as long-term absentee Jorge Andrade, who is sidelined for the season. Guglielmo Stendardo and Raffaele Palladino were handed rare run-outs.
The injured Ferdinand Coly and Andrea Pisanu both missed out for relegation strugglers Parma, while Massimo Paci was suspended.
Juve almost had the perfect start as Alessandro Del Piero whipped in a free kick from the left and Hasan Salihamidizic dived in to header the ball just wide.Salihamidzic was seeing a lot of the ball in the early stages, and he crossed from the right for Palladino to volley the ball off target.
Down the other Bernardo Corradi hit a snapshot from the edge of the area, and Gianluigi Buffon had to get down well to smoother the ball.
On 10 minutes Cristiano Molinaro bombed down the left and crossed for David Trezeguet, but the Frenchman couldn’t keep his header down.
Mauro Camoranesi used his quick feet to beat two men, and he cut back for Palladino, who didn’t get enough power into his shot.
Juve were dominating, and they broke the deadlock on 17 minutes as Del Piero's corner from the left somehow made its way to Trezeguet at the back post. The Frenchman couldn't miss as he notched up his 18th goal of the season. It was all too easy for the Bianconeri as Parma struggled to keep possession. Molinaro tried his luck from distance, but Bucci saved comfortably. On 29 minutes Juve doubled their lead and what a goal it was. Palladino nodded the ball past his marker before rifling a simply unstoppable 20-yard half volley into the far corner. It could have been three moments later as Del Piero flashed a left-foot shot just past the post.McDonald Mariga offered Parma some rare rest-bite with a long-range volley, but Buffon watched it over all the way. Corradi also managed to get a shot in, but his effort was tame.Juve took their foot off the gas, but they had a great chance right on half time, as a sumptuous through ball from Camoranesi found Zdenek Grygera, but the right-back’s shot was charged down.
From the resulting corner there was a flash-point as Fernando Couto clearly punched Giorgio Chiellini in the face. The referee and his officials missed the incident, but the Portuguese veteran is certain to face disciplinary action after the game.
Parma received an immediate blow at the beginning of the second half as Corradi was forced off injured, and was replaced by Andrea Gasbarroni.
Nocerino had Juve’s first attempt of the second half with a long-range effort that Bucci collected at the second attempt.
On 58 minutes Del Piero woke up after his half time rest, bursting past his man, playing a one-two with Trezeguet, before hooking the ball over the bar from a tight angle.Palladino had been wonderful all game, and he made some space for himself outside the area but sliced the ball wide.
On 71 minutes the same player nodded down to substitute Pavel Nedved, and the 35-year-old crashed a trademark drive inches wide of the post.
Just minutes later, Juventus grabbed a third goal courtesy of a freak own goal from Stefano Morrone. Substitute Tiago's attempted pass cannoned off the head of Morrone, and looped over Bucci into the net!
Things went from bad to worse for Parma, as they were then reduced down to ten men, as Couto saw red for dissent.
Morrone tried to redeem himself after his own goal, but his long-shot was well off target. Juve played out the remaining minutes of the game as they registered their second win in succession. Parma meanwhile remain just one point above the relegation zone.
